Westcreek Adopt A Tree PrgmLast Spring, the South Hills Neighborhood Association members decided to take on a big project. The members voted to move on planting 33 shade trees all around the walking paths on Westcreek.
To be successful, it was contingent on two things: we would need to apply for a tree grant with the Fort Worth Forestry Department, and we would have to guarantee we would care for them for two years. With no running water at the creek, this was a challenge. However, we approached Albee Landscaping. If we will cover their cost, they have wholeheartedly agreed to take care of the trees for those two years. It makes sense, they have the manpower, the watering equipment, and the expertise. We just heard from the Forestry Department. They said, "...I am expecting to provide 33 trees of the 33 trees requested (10 Cedar Elm, 10 Red Oak, 13 Bur Oak). I would expect it will be early spring before we're able to begin planting." To officialize the adoption of trees and get everything in place for planting, we thought that families might Adopt A Tree. Each tree will have a plaque that tells who adopted it. It's also been suggested that a group of neighbors might like to Adopt A Tree together. The cost is $200 for members, or $215 for non-members or groups of neighbors.
